Juve head coach Max Allegri gave the 30-year-old a start at the Allianz Stadium, but the Italian tactician was forced to make a substitution when Pogba pulled up after only 23 minutes.

It proved too much for the ex-Manchester United midfielder, who departed the club on a free transfer last summer following six years at Old Trafford.

Pogba was seen holding his face and wiping away tears as he walked off the field to be substituted. He appeared heartbroken and needed to be consoled as he walked away, lifting his shirt over his head.

It was not immediately clear what the problem was, but the France star’s reaction suggested it could have been a significant ailment that would keep him out for an extended period of time.

After rehabilitating from a torn meniscus in his knee sustained during the club’s pre-season tour, he didn’t even make his debut for the Bianconeri until February. However, after only nine games for the Serie A team, his season could be finished.

Allegri brought on striker Arkadiusz Milik as he reshuffled his lineup in Turin with the score still 0-0 as the beleaguered Italians battle for Champions League qualifying.

It comes only days after Allegri urged Pogba to get back into form and play full matches after being eased back into the action.

The midfielder scored in Juve’s 1-1 draw with Sevilla on Thursday, as the club aims to reach the Europa League final.

“He is improving, and he played well for 25 minutes,” Allegri stated. “He needs to play more games to get back into shape; he can be decisive in the final third, as we’ve discussed many times.”

“Right now, the most important thing is that he’s available.” It’s difficult to recover and play a complete match with games every three days.”
