Antony sends seven-word message to Manchester United teammates after win vs Leeds

The Brazilian sat at home as Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho scored to move Manchester United to second place in the Premier League.

The Brazilian was once again unavailable for United’s trip across the Pennines, having been out since the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at home earlier this month, but he was able to watch from the comfort of his own home as goals from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho secured a fifth win in six games.

Erik ten Hag’s side struggled to cope with a feverish Elland Road atmosphere and a persistent Leeds side after making three changes from the squad that started midweek. The Reds rode their luck at times but improved after the break, finally seizing the lead through Rashford’s exquisite header before Garnacho doubled the lead five minutes later.

United had the ball in the net twice more in the closing minutes, but both Rashford and Wout Weghorst – who is still seeking his first Premier League goal in red – were ruled offside. With a spirited second-half display, Ten Hag’s players withstood the remaining pressure from a managerless Leeds, with Antony praising his teammates on Instagram.

The 22-year-old captioned a picture of Garnacho rejoicing with the scoreline: “What a triumph! Congratulations, team! We are One!!”

When Antony will be able to rejoin his United colleagues is unknown, though Ten Hag suggested earlier this week that it could be sooner rather than later.

“I’m not sure,” the Dutchman remarked when asked about a possible comeback date. “I don’t believe it is a long time, but we’ll have to wait and see how things progress in the next few days. It’s in his leg, but I’m not sure where. That will become clear to you.”

United have four days to prepare for their travel to Spain on Thursday evening when they will face Barcelona in the opening leg of their Europa League play-off tie.
