Manchester United’s victory over Fulham was decided by a thrilling penalty shootout in which two opponents and their manager were sent off.
Bruno Fernandes, the team’s star midfielder, calmly despatched the penalty kick and then scored again, while Marcel Sabitzer scored his first goal for the club.
While the attacking players deserve all of the credit, one player at the other end of the field deserves special mention.
Take a bow, goalkeeper David de Gea.
David de Gea saves Manchester United
David de Gea is not flawless, as we have seen many times over the years, but he is extremely good. On Sunday, he was fantastic.
De Gea is considerably more likely to win a game for United than to lose one, and he had a crucial impact in the club’s favor against Fulham.
He produced a spectacular diving stop (seen above) to deny Aleksandar Mitrovic a second goal that would have extended Fulham’s lead.
De Gea’s acrobatics grabbed the ball out and pushed it away from the goal, but that wasn’t his only stunning save.
The Spaniard made a total of five saves and completed 91% of his passes. This was the type of all-around performance that every goalie desires.
De Gea is praised by Manchester United fans.
Manchester United fans praised the 32-year-efforts, old’s saying that the squad would have lost if it hadn’t been for his outstanding performance.
