Christian Eriksen scored his first goal for Manchester United in a pre-season friendly against Wrexham on Wednesday. Lisandro Martinez, another new signing, also played as the Red Devils won 4-1.

Martinez was only officially introduced as a Manchester United player earlier in the day. However, he was thrown right into the action against their National League opponents.

The Wrexham AFC podcast’s Twitter account, @RobRyanRed, offered half-time and full-time updates on the encounter at Carrington. United trailed 1-1 at halftime, with Eriksen scoring their goal before adding three more in the second half.

Martinez and Raphael Varane both played in the first half. The France defender had been injured during preseason, but his return will be welcomed by United manager Erik ten Hag.

Eriksen was United’s second acquisition of the summer, joining on a free transfer from Brentford earlier this month. Martinez was the next player to arrive after Ajax agreed to a deal for up to £57 million.

The transfer was not finalized until Wednesday, but United has finally announced his arrival. Martinez expressed his joy after signing a long-term contract at Old Trafford.

“It’s an honor to be a part of this wonderful football team,” the Argentine stated. I’ve worked so hard to get here, and now that I’m here, I intend to push myself even harder.

“I’ve been fortunate to be a member of successful teams throughout my career, and that’s something I hope to continue at Manchester United.” There will be a lot of effort to get there, but I am confident that we can achieve it under this manager and coaches, as well as with my new teammates.

“I’d want to thank Ajax and their fans for their unwavering support.” I had an incredible time there, but I believe the time has come for me to put my skills to the test in a different setting. Now I’m at the ideal club to do this.”

John Murtough, United’s football director, also explained the club’s choice to sign the 23-year-old. “Lisandro is a fantastic player who will add quality and experience to Erik’s squad.”

“We are happy that he has chosen to join Manchester United, and we look forward to watching him develop further and contribute to the team’s success.”

On Saturday, United will play Atletico Madrid in an official friendly in Oslo. A day later, they host Rayo Vallecano at home.
