This revelation comes in the midst of Erik ten Hag’s quest to fortify his defensive options, spurred on by a series of injuries plaguing his backline.

The defensive setbacks have already hit the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane this season, necessitating the use of stand-ins like Jonny Evans and Maguire, who was a hot topic of transfer speculation last summer.

With an eye toward the January transfer window or the following summer, Manchester United is exploring several potential candidates to bolster their defensive ranks.

Among the prospects catching Ten Hag’s attention is the promising Antonio Silva from Benfica.

Another name in the mix is Marc Guehi, a sought-after figure in the Crystal Palace camp. However, it’s worth noting that acquiring Guehi’s services could come at a price tag of £60 million, according to insights from Football Insider.

Although a January move may be on the table, the England international is reportedly hesitant to switch clubs midseason, as he prioritizes securing regular first-team football leading up to Euro 2024.

A summer transfer seems to be the more plausible scenario, especially given that his current contract extends until June 2026.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano chimed in on Manchester United’s pursuit of Guehi, noting, “Marc Guehi is continuing to impress with his performances for Crystal Palace and the England national team, sparking fresh rumors about his future. Manchester United has been linked with him in reports.”

Romano emphasized the advantage of players like Guehi who have proven themselves in the rigorous Premier League environment.

At present, Guehi is reported to be earning £50,000 a week as part of his current deal with Crystal Palace, following his move from Chelsea.

His stint with the Blues saw him make just two cup appearances before his departure.

Since joining Selhurst Park, Guehi has made a significant impact, featuring in 91 games and emerging as a vital component of the club’s defense, with an impressive 37 league appearances in the previous season.
