Not Onana or Casemiro – Man Utd star slammed for ‘trying to be the hero’ in Brighton humbling; Carragher brutally mocks another

Manchester United’s former goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, did not mince words when assessing the performance of center-back Lisandro Martinez in the team’s disappointing home defeat to Brighton on Saturday.

The Red Devils endured their third loss in five Premier League games at Old Trafford as they were outplayed by the high-flying Seagulls in a convincing 3-1 victory for the visitors.

Goals from former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross, and Joao Pedro secured the win for Brighton, with Hannibal Mejbri scoring a consolation goal for Erik ten Hag’s side. The manager also faced criticism for his decision to substitute the impressive Rasmus Hojlund with 25 minutes remaining, resulting in boos from the home crowd.

Pascal Gross extended Brighton’s lead nine minutes into the second half with a clever dummy move that outfoxed Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine defender attempted to block Gross but was easily bypassed, leading to a goal.

Peter Schmeichel was particularly critical of Martinez’s positioning and decision-making in this instance. He pointed out, “Players, for instance, Martinez here, are trying to be a hero and get in and block… Clearly, things aren’t right for Manchester United.”

Carragher’s Mockery of Onana

On another note, Jamie Carragher couldn’t resist mocking Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana after he conceded three goals against Brighton.

Carragher had previously criticized Onana for shouting at Harry Maguire during a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund in July. When Gary Neville expressed his displeasure with the Glazer ownership after the game, Carragher seized the opportunity to mock Onana further, highlighting the goalkeeper’s earlier incident.
