Diaz sprinted behind the Spurs' defense, and slotted the ball past Guglielmo Vicario, but the assistant referee's flag halted the celebrations. The video assistant referee intervened, but reports suggest that the initial check was focused on allowing Diaz's goal, not overturning the initial offside decision. Liverpool ultimately suffered a 2-1 defeat, with Joel Matip's own goal in stoppage time sealing their fate. However, the controversy lingers on. This incident is the latest in a series of technology mishaps that have plagued Jurgen Klopp's side this season. As a result of their first defeat of the season, Liverpool missed the opportunity to claim the top spot in the Premier League, as Manchester City also faced disappointment earlier in the day. Wolverhampton Wanderers shocked the reigning champions with goals from Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-chan, securing a 2-1 victory over Pep Guardiola's side.
