Manchester United’s season has been waning for months, and they’ll be hoping it doesn’t totally stop on Thursday against Chelsea.

The team’s chances of finishing in the top four this season were practically terminated by a loss to Arsenal on Saturday, but the fight is not technically finished. And, with a new manager on the way in the summer, any slacking off will very certainly be noticed by the new decision-makers.

United’s players will also be eager to restore pride to the fanbase after humbling defeats to Everton, Liverpool, and Arsenal.

Mirror Sport has all the latest Manchester United news ahead of that match, with both teams wanting to finish on a high note after a disappointing season.

Ten Hag’s opinion is offered by Ferguson.

Sir Alex Ferguson, the club’s legendary manager, has urged Ten Hag to do well as the club’s next manager and pushed him to “take control” at Old Trafford.

United have failed to establish stability in the dugout since Ferguson’s departure in 2013, and their performances have suffered as a result. The title won by the Scotsman in his penultimate season remains the Red Devils’ last, and they are currently a considerable way behind Manchester City and Liverpool.

Ferguson was asked about the Dutchman and expressed his hope that he plays well. “I hope he does well,” he remarked. “The club needs someone to take leadership, and I hope he does well.”

Ronaldo is defended by Evra.

Former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra has cautioned the club that the present is still essential, despite the team’s continued troubles.

Fans will be hoping that Ten Hag can instill a template that will survive for years to come, but a club the size of the Red Devils will still be expected to succeed in the short term.

Evra believes that this should not be forgotten and has supported the 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo’s efforts in light of this.

“I guess we can’t talk about Cristiano Ronaldo anymore,” he remarked. “He’s scored 22 goals and people are still commenting on his age. Concentrate on the present moment. That’s why I have nothing to say about Ten Hag other than welcome to our club; I will support any manager because I will support my team for the rest of my life.”

Children in the running

Ralf Rangnick, United’s current interim manager, has a number of selection concerns to deal with ahead of Thursday’s game and may have to call on some of the club’s budding talents as a result.

Hannibal Mejbri, Alvaro Fernandez, Shola Shoretire, and Will Fish were all spotted in first-team training ahead of the game, with the former having just come in as a substitute in the 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.

After thriving in the youth setup, Mejbri and Shoretire are well known to United supporters. Meanwhile, Fernandez is a talented left-back, and Fish is a center-back who appeared once for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, and Luke Shaw are all out against the Blues, while Fred is also questionable.
