Ralf Rangnick, the interim manager of Manchester United, dismissed accusations that his training methods are antiquated, claiming the team’s progress is “clear.”

According to ESPN, United’s players were playfully referring to assistant Chris Armas, an American, as Ted Lasso behind his back, and this isn’t the first incident of displeasure since Rangnick’s arrival.

It comes after poor results in the FA Cup and the Premier League against Middlesbrough and Burnley, leaving United with little chance of winning silverware this season and a little blow in their aspirations of finishing in the top four.

Rangnick believes the club is making significant progress, which he attributes to the hard effort he and his coaching staff are putting in on the practice field.

“To be honest, I haven’t read any newspapers and don’t know about those articles,” he remarked when asked what he thought of the reports.

“The tactical development of the team over the last several weeks is evident, and that is due to the work we are doing in training – both on the pitch and in video analysis.”

‘The players are aware that there has been progress.’

Rangnick also stated that the players are aware of their development, but that if they are to advance further, they must start putting in solid performances for the entire 90 minutes.

United have gone up 1-0 in both of their recent games against Middlesbrough and Burnley, wasting a slew of chances in both games and failing to respond after conceding an equalizer.

Rangnick is hoping that this will alter with two tough games on the horizon in the league – Southampton on Saturday and Brighton on Tuesday – with United currently in sixth place after Arsenal’s win over Wolves.

“I believe it is critical that the players recognize that there has been significant improvement in recent weeks, both in possession and without the ball,” he continued.

“They understand that we were in control of the game, but if we surrendered a goal, we must keep to the game plan and not lose our shape or calm.”

“The most damaging aspect of it was that we didn’t follow to the game plan and didn’t have the same positioning on the field.”

“Hopefully, if we get the same amount of opportunities in the following games, we can score more than one goal.” This is a problem; we need to be more efficient.”
