Manchester United has criticized two elements in Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent interview with Piers Morgan. With rumors regarding a January exit from Old Trafford at an all-time high, the former Real Madrid and Juventus star made particularly harsh words about Erik ten Hag and the Glazers.

After a difficult start to the season, Ronaldo appears to be ready to cut ties with the Red Devils. Despite being their leading scorer last season, he has only started four Premier League games this season, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial favored up top.

Rumors of discord between himself and Ten Hag have circulated in recent weeks, and the relationship appeared to reach a new low last month when Ronaldo refused to come in as a late substitution and stormed down the tunnel during United’s victory over Tottenham.

The former Los Blancos singer felt forced to give his side of the tale, which he did this week in an explosive interview with Talk TV host Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo claimed to have “no respect” for Ten Hag on his account, which will undoubtedly serve as a harsh farewell to the Red Devils “I have no regard for him because he does not respect me. If you don’t have regard for me, I won’t have respect for you.”

He also criticized a lack of facility investment after his departure for Madrid in 2009, alleging that the Glazers ‘don’t care and that time had stood still in his absence. “I knew Man United wasn’t the same, but I didn’t realize it was such a tremendous difference,” he explained.

“To be honest, that was the thing that startled me the most. There was no change. Even the gym, the technology, and the cooks paused in time, which astonished me. I expected to see new things, but instead I’ve seen many of the same things I used to see when I was 20. United had made little progress.”

According to Sky Sports, the two things in particular that United ‘did not accept’ from Ronaldo’s furious interview are Ten Hag’s lack of respect and the club’s owners’ lack of investment. The 37-year-old is nearing the end of his contract and is largely anticipated to leave Old Trafford in January.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner allegedly sought to force a move away from Manchester United during the summer. Still, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea all backed away from a potential deal.

A substantial offer from the Middle East was also rumored to be on the table, but Ronaldo is understood to prioritize Champions League football. One of the more plausible escape ways from Old Trafford in the coming weeks is a sentimental return to Sporting Lisbon.
