Potential Signings and Starting Line-Up

Reports suggest that United will prioritize younger talent, steering clear of big-name signings. Here’s a look at their potential starting line-up for the opening weekend of the next season, including four new signings fitting the new criteria and one additional signing for depth.

Depth Additions

Boca Juniors centre-back Aaron Anselmino, 19, is a target for adding quality to the bench. Having impressed scouts from both United and Chelsea, Anselmino could be an affordable addition to compensate for further centre-back departures, including Raphael Varane.

United also need an experienced striker to provide competition for 21-year-old Rasmus Hojlund after Anthony Martial’s exit. Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, who scored 30 goals in as many games this season, is linked with a move for under £20 million.

Goalkeeper – Onana

Andre Onana had a mixed debut season but hopes to improve in his second year. Although his future might be uncertain if Erik ten Hag leaves, a new goalkeeper is not a priority for United.

Defence – Dalot, Branthwaite, Martinez, Shaw

Jarrad Branthwaite is likely to be a major target for United, with Everton valuing him between £60 million and £70 million. He would replace Varane and partner with Lisandro Martinez in central defense. Diogo Dalot, one of Ten Hag’s standout players last season, will retain his starting spot. Despite a challenging season due to injuries, Luke Shaw will start if fit, with Tyrell Malacia providing cover.

Midfield – Onana, Mainoo, Fernandes

Finding a partner for Kobbie Mainoo is a priority. United could target Everton’s Amadou Onana, a 22-year-old Belgian known for his physicality, to pair with Mainoo in a midfield double pivot. Bruno Fernandes is expected to stay and continue captaining the side in the No. 10 role.

Attack – Olise, Garnacho, Hojlund

United’s final marquee signing should be a new attacker. Michael Olise, a 22-year-old right-winger, is a strong contender, with United set to compete with Chelsea for his signature. Olise would challenge Amad Diallo and Antony for a starting spot, while Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford compete on the left. Hojlund is expected to be the first-choice striker, but United need additional cover to replace Martial.
