After a poor start to the season, Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain have changed their contract stance.

According to reports in France, Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain may return to the negotiating table following an unsatisfactory start to the season.

This summer, there has been a lot of conjecture about Mbappe’s future at Parc des Princes. The French international was part of PSG’s ‘bomb squad’ after being cut out of the club’s pre-season trip, and he also missed manager Luis Enrique’s first Ligue 1 game on Saturday.

PSG accepted a world-record bid from Al-Hilal for the World Cup winner, only for Mbappe to reject a move to Saudi Arabia. After the new manager’s debut against Lorient finished in a goalless draw, we might witness intensified efforts to keep the former Monaco manager in the French capital.

Mbappe and PSG have reopened discussions, according to L’Equipe (via Get French Football News). A happy settlement is far from guaranteed, although the arrival of Ousmane Dembele in Paris has been considered as a factor.

Dembele, a fellow France international and buddy of PSG’s all-time leading scorer, was greeted on social media by Mbappe after completing a £43.5 million deal from Barcelona. “Welcome back, brother!” I’m delighted to see you here. “The adventure has begun!” Mbappe posted a message on Instagram.

If Mbappe and his representatives can reach an agreement, it will be a significant step forward. The 24-year-old had previously stated that he will not exercise a contract extension option beyond 2024, allowing him to go for nothing next summer.

Mbappe was not the only senior player who did not play against Lorient. Julian Draxler and Gini WIjnaldum have also been kept out, with the duo still having the option of leaving in the summer.

Former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique made use of several of his summer recruits. With Marco Verratti expected to leave this summer, Manuel Ugarte started in central midfield, with a new-look front three of Marco Asensio, Lee Kang-in, and Goncalo Ramos.

Despite this, and despite some encouraging signals, PSG came up empty. The outcome left the manager “both happy and frustrated,” although many will point to the fact that it was the first blank in any competition since April.

“I’m happy because we were able to play our game,” remarked Luis Enrique. “We put our opponents under pressure in their own half.” Our match was a 10 out of 10 in terms of defense.

“Of course, we had possession offensively, but too often we had attacking players in the middle of their defensive block, creating no danger.” In that regard, the second half was superior to the first. It’s still difficult to play and score against a defensive-minded squad.”
