Arsenal were without a permanent captain for much of last season when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the armband prior to his departure to Barcelona.

Martin Odegaard was used as captain at times near the end of last season, a role he has frequently filled with his country, Norway.

Arsenal has now officially declared that Odegaard will lead the team next season.

Odegaard has demonstrated exceptional leadership and experience despite his young age. The 23-year-old arrived on the scene at an early age and has played in several nations, so he’s likely to be more advanced than many his age.

Arsenal already has a very youthful roster, so giving the captaincy to a guy with more experience than Odegaard is problematic.

Last season, no Premier League team had a younger average age than Arsenal, hence Odegaard is regarded as a senior member of the Arsenal squad.
