Done deal: Arsenal best defender completes move to Marseille

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares has joined Olympique Marseille on a season-long loan.

Tavares joined Arsenal at the start of last season, but he has failed to find his feet in England.

The teenage defender may not be ready for the step up to the Premier League, and he has now left The Emirates.

Marseille has officially announced the signing of John Tavares on a season-long loan.

Tavares may benefit from a temporary move to obtain vital first-team experience. At Arsenal, Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko are expected to be ahead of him in the pecking order, thus his playing time will be limited next season.

Even if Tavares excels in France next season, he is unlikely to have a future at Arsenal with Zinchenko and Tierney ahead of him.

The aim could be to let Tavares grow and flourish, potentially resulting in a nice profit for him in the future.

After a dismal season, it would have been difficult to convince Tavares to sign a long-term contract.
