Manchester United ready to shell out €20 million to sign exit-bound Barcelona defender

With Barça planning to sign Cesar Azpilicueta this summer, they have opted to unload Dest and are seeking a cost of roughly €20 million for the USMNT player.

And now, according to SPORT, Manchester United is interested in Dest and is willing to pay the asking amount for the young right-back.

Manchester United are already in talks with Barcelona about Frenkie de Jong and could now begin talks for Dest as well. Erik ten Hag, manager of the Red Devils, knows the right-back well from his time at Ajax and holds high regard for him.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to leave Manchester United this summer. And, with Diogo Dalot failing to impress on a consistent basis, they are looking for a new right-back, and Dest could be the answer.

Despite his failure to establish himself in Catalonia, the 21-year-old remains highly regarded in football circles, having piqued the curiosity of Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea, among others, last year.

Dest has repeatedly stated that he does not wish to leave Barcelona. However, if Azpilicueta arrives, his game-time would be drastically reduced, forcing him to ponder leaving. A reunion with ten Hag at Manchester United could also be appealing to the youngster.

Dest has made 72 appearances for Barcelona since signing from Ajax in 2020, totaling three goals and four assists. With the club keen to offload him, an exit for the USMNT star appears to be in the cards, and a move to the Premier League might very well happen.
