Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong has not informed Barcelona that he wishes to move during the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano. Erik ten Hag is said to be a “huge supporter” of the Dutch midfielder, who is having a productive season at Camp Nou.
The Red Devils are being connected with a deal for De Jong once more, and their boss is apparently ready to make another play for him in the summer transfer window after failing to sign him last year.
“Last year we said that Frenkie was really pleased at Barcelona – with the squad, fans, and the city,” Romano said of the Dutch midfielder’s circumstances and stance amid the United links. He adores the city of Barcelona.
“That is why he always wanted to stay at Barcelona, despite spending the whole summer with whispers around him – that is because Manchester United wanted Frenkie de Jong.
“We understand how Erik ten Hag has always been a great fan of De Jong and that will not change. Erik ten Hag wishes he could have Frenkie de Jong with him. Yet, as of today, Frenkie has not indicated his desire to quit Barcelona to anyone.
“He’s content in Barcelona and is a crucial player for Xavi. But we’ll see if it changes in the summer, whether on the player or club side. But he’s currently focused on Barcelona and fully engaged in the project.
“We know that things in the transfer market can always alter throughout the summer. We know Erik ten Hag adores Frenkie de Jong.”
How the Dutchman Can Be the Ideal Piece of the United Midfield Puzzle
The Netherlands midfielder has improved steadily throughout the season at Camp Nou. De Jong has emerged as a midfield’monster’ in Xavi’s system this season, allowing him to put in some incredible performances. He’s made 32 appearances for his club thus far, scoring two goals and assisting on one.
De Jong is a talented midfielder who may be the ideal addition to elevate United’s midfield line to new heights. He can be an excellent midfield partner for Casemiro, assisting him in moving the ball from the back to the front lines. Furthermore, the 25-year-old can help create attacking plays more smoothly and free Bruno Fernandes to cause havoc in the final third thanks to his creative aptitude and fine passing ability.
The midfield trio of De Jong, Casemiro, and Bruno Fernandes has the potential to be world-class, allowing United to challenge for the major titles and dominate games far more frequently. But, it is unclear whether the Dutchman is eager to depart, and even if he is, the Spanish club is expected to want high compensation for him.
