Manchester United fans did not get carried away on Tuesday as Erik ten Hag reinstated a timetable not seen since Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure as manager.

On Monday, Ten Hag met with some members of his squad for the first time ahead of their pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia next month. According to the Manchester Evening News, players arrived around 9.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. on day one, but that had all changed by Tuesday.

All team members arrived at Carrington for 9 a.m., an hour after Ten Hag was photographed entering. According to a source, “Everything was in by 9 a.m., an hour earlier than usual. Fergie Time.”

During his tenure, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enabled players to arrive by 10 a.m. By the time he was fired in November, the dressing room had turned sour.

Some United fans were relieved to see their team’s new manager assert his authority right away. Many others on Twitter expressed their appreciation for Ten Hag’s policy change, but cautioned against getting ahead of themselves.

@urbanangler25: This won’t bother me until I see transfers and consequent results on the field. We’ve got a long way to go. Short-term hype, long-term misery.

@aaaniket2: It’s been two days. After a while, you’ll notice them hiding behind their agents.

@pheez fx: Now they need some discipline on the field, not just on the training ground. I hope they appreciate and adhere to the ETH playing philosophy, as well as demonstrate some mindset as elite players.

@rahulsesh: Let the outcomes speak for themselves.

@officialfoyz: How long before we see the notorious headlines about Manchester United players complaining about going to training at 9 a.m. since it means they don’t get a lie in?
