The Red Devils have already bought Mason Mount from Chelsea in a £65 million deal, but Ten Hag is believed to want to reinforce his midfield even more.

According to The Athletic, Brighton’s Moises Caicedo has been identified as a possible addition, with United willing to spend much to get the 21-year-old.

Although the Seagulls are said to seek £100 million for the midfielder, a figure that could force United to look elsewhere.

Frustratingly, the club is claimed to have passed on the chance to buy Caicedo for just £4.5 million in 2021, which will sting Ten Hag even more.

Meanwhile, United’s Financial Fair Play rules, which have curtailed their transfer budget, may make the Ecuador international unavailable this summer.

However, the Old Trafford club may have their own Caicedo in the form of Kobbie Mainoo, who could alleviate Ten Hag’s transfer concerns.

Mainoo has the potential to save Ten Hag millions of dollars.

Mainoo has been called up to the first team ahead of Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Leeds in Oslo, and he has impressed in training.

The Stockport-born midfielder joined United at the age of nine and worked his way through the ranks before making his first-team debut against Charlton Athletic in United’s 3-0 Carabao Cup victory in January.

After coming off the bench in their FA Cup win against Reading, the 18-year-old made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Leicester City in February, later signing a long-term contract with the club.

The teenage midfielder has gone viral on social media after training clips of him spinning Fred this way and that before passing to a teammate surfaced, demonstrating his technical talents and ball control.
