The 22-year-old forward, who last played for United in January 2022, faced legal issues and a subsequent club investigation before being loaned to Getafe.
Despite a promising restart in Spain, with five goals and four assists in 17 appearances, Greenwood’s future remains uncertain.
La Liga giants, including Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, have shown interest, prompting discussions about his return to Old Trafford.
United faces three potential outcomes this summer: allowing Greenwood’s return, selling him permanently to generate a transfer fee, or loaning him out again and allowing him to leave for free in 2025.
Reports suggest Ratcliffe and INEOS will delay a decision until later this season, following the Premier League’s ratification of the minority investment.
Ten Hag, according to previous reports, prefers Greenwood’s return, aligning with his alleged support for the initial decision made by then-CEO Richard Arnold last year.
Despite not working with Greenwood directly, Ten Hag is said to have supported Arnold’s stance after the investigation, which concluded Greenwood wasn’t guilty of the accusations.
United’s football director, John Murtough, reportedly shares a similar perspective. The club has not denied Ten Hag’s reported stance, and Greenwood’s positive performances at Getafe are unlikely to sway the Dutchman’s opinion on a potential return.
