‘I find it ridiculous’ – Ten Hag fumes after First UEFA decision on Garnacho denied penalty against Tottenham

In the aftermath of Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham, Erik ten Hag emphatically asserted that his team should have been awarded a penalty during the match.

United twice secured the lead at Old Trafford, with goals from Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford. However, Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentancur’s goals ensured Tottenham left with a share of the points.

Alejandro Garnacho, the only member of United’s front three not to score, faced a challenging afternoon against Destiny Udogie.

Despite this, Garnacho believed he should have been awarded a penalty in the first half when he was closely monitored by Udogie in the box. However, his appeals were swiftly dismissed.

In the post-match comments, when asked about the penalty decision, Ten Hag expressed his frustration, stating, “Yes. What can you do? But I am used to it, all season that is the case.

At Spurs, it was similar, a clear handball from Romero, and I can list a number more. At some point I think it will turn.”

Currently sitting seventh in the table, United faces an eight-point gap from fourth-placed Arsenal, having played one more game.

Despite their offensive struggles this season, Ten Hag’s frustration stemmed from defensive lapses against Tottenham, particularly in conceding from a corner and a quick release after halftime.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag praised the “two great goals” scored by Hojlund and Rashford, expressing optimism about the growing cohesion among his attacking players.

He sees the potential for a potent front three with Garnacho in the mix, posing a threat to every opponent.
