According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle is interested in signing Manchester United defender Harry Maguire in the late summer transfer window, after he turned down a move to West Ham a few weeks ago.

With Jonny Evans returning to Manchester United and Maguire sliding further down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag, the East London club has been linked with another bid for the 30-year-old center-back.

Hammers manager David Moyes has already recruited Konstantinos Mavropanos, but it might be argued that one more central defender is required, particularly if the Scot wants the option of playing with three at the back.

Newcastle, on the other hand, appears to be preparing to pounce on the Manchester United defense…

The possibility of a Harry Maguire transfer to Newcastle forces West Ham to make a major choice.
With the Mail reporting that the Toon are set to make a move for Maguire, the Hammers must decide whether to pursue him again.

Since going to Old Trafford, the former Leicester City star has struggled to live up to his reputation and high price tag.

That isn’t totally his fault; the way Manchester United play just isn’t conducive to his skill set. Those who claim he isn’t very good simply don’t understand football.

He’s been regarded as a fantastic player by The Sun, and when he’s playing in the correct system, he’s one of the best center-backs around.

The fact that West Ham sits so deep would be ideal for the England international.

He has, however, already turned us down this summer. And, as long as Kurt Zouma is still at the London Stadium, I doubt Harry Maguire will join West Ham before the transfer season shuts.

A transfer to Newcastle is more plausible for him.
