‘If I’m honest’: 22-year-old Man United player admits he didn’t like one decision Ten Hag made against Galatasaray
Erik ten Hag Takes Responsibility as Manchester United Stumble Against Galatasaray
Following Manchester United’s disappointing draw against Galatasaray that jeopardized their Champions League prospects, manager Erik ten Hag refused to lay blame on goalkeeper Andre Onana, taking full responsibility for the team’s performance.
Despite taking an early two-goal lead with strikes from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United faltered in Istanbul, allowing Galatasaray to level the score.
Onana faced criticism for his role in conceding goals, particularly a free-kick by Hakim Ziyech and an unfortunate fumble that resulted in an own goal.
In a post-match interview with TNT Sports, Ten Hag defended his players and acknowledged the defensive shortcomings.
He stated, “I was pleased with how we played but at the same time I have to criticize the team because the defending is not good enough. We are leading 3-1, and we cannot afford mistakes as it makes a difference.”
When questioned about the responsibility for the team’s setback, the United manager asserted, “It’s always me. I am responsible for this.
We know we are in a project. We are making improvements, so that’s very hopeful. We are going in the right direction, so I know we will be successful in the long term, but if you want to stay in the Champions League, you need to win these games.”
