The left-back made the move to Old Trafford on the transfer deadline day in September due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Reguilon featured in 12 games for United during his loan stint, but with Shaw back to full fitness and Malacia set to return soon, the necessity for Reguilon has diminished.

With Erik ten Hag’s squad facing fewer fixtures in the second half of the season after exiting both the Carabao Cup and Champions League, the decision to end Reguilon’s loan was made.

The future trajectory for Reguilon is uncertain, considering Tottenham was willing to loan him out in the summer.

Under FIFA rules, the 27-year-old, having not played for Spurs this season, is eligible to join a new club in January.

Reguilon did feature in pre-season for Tottenham, but Destiny Udogie has solidified his position as the preferred choice at left-back under manager Ange Postecoglou.

The 21-year-old’s impressive performances earned him a contract extension until 2030 last month.

Tottenham is actively pursuing reinforcements this month, with ongoing negotiations with Genoa for Romanian defender Radu Dragusin.

The club aims to secure a deal below Genoa’s initial £25 million asking price.
