“He is already in England but…” – Mason Greenwood team-mate offers seafood platter to prove ref’s claim about Man Utd star

Juan Iglesias, Mason Greenwood’s teammate at Getafe, has suggested that the referee who issued a red card to the Manchester United loanee in their recent 2-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano might be misrepresenting the incident.

Greenwood was sent off for dissent, but Iglesias has offered an intriguing reward for anyone who can provide evidence of Greenwood swearing at the official.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) following Greenwood’s dismissal, Iglesias stated: “If someone finds a video of me that says f*** you, I’ll invite them to a seafood platter.”

The heated match witnessed three players being sent off, with Juanmi Latasa receiving two yellow cards before halftime, and Damian Suarez also seeing red after being substituted by Getafe, according to referee Jorge Figueroa.

Contrary to the official report stating that Greenwood shouted “f*** you” to Figueroa, Getafe manager Pepe Bordalas insisted that Greenwood did not insult the referee but expressed frustration with decisions during the match.

“The player told me that he said ‘don’t f* with me,’ only that,” Bordalas clarified in the post-match press conference. “It was in frustration, but at no point has he insulted anybody. It was a comment, ‘don’t f* with me, why won’t you blow (the whistle).'”

Despite being two goals down and a man short, Greenwood has generally impressed during his La Liga loan spell, sparking interest in a potential permanent move away from Old Trafford.

Getafe has openly expressed their desire to retain Greenwood beyond this season, with club president Angel Torres stating, “The boy is super happy.

Now he is there, in England. The family too. They know we are interested in him staying one more year, and I think we are on the right track.”

As Greenwood’s form has improved, links to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have also emerged, and United could entertain offers for the 22-year-old as the January transfer window unfolds.
