‘I was fuming’ – Dean Henderson slates Manchester United for ‘wasting’ 12 months of his career

Dean Henderson claims he turned down several loan offers after being informed he would be Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Dean Henderson has slammed Manchester United after admitting he turned down many loan offers last summer after being persuaded he would be the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
After becoming dissatisfied with his lack of playing time at Old Trafford, the shot-stopper joined Nottingham Forest on loan this summer. After breaking into the first team during the 2020/21 season, many projected Henderson to become the club’s long-term No. 1.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promised him a position in the starting XI the next season, but a case of Covid interrupted his campaign, allowing David de Gea to retake his place between the posts.
In a candid interview with talkSPORT, the on-loan goalkeeper lashed out at his parent club, claiming they “wasted” 12 months of his career.
“I turned down so many nice loans last summer because of that [being promised the No. 1 place], and they wouldn’t let me go,” he admitted. “It was aggravating. At my age, sitting there and wasting a year is criminal. I was enraged.”
He went on: “Coming out of the Euro squad, I told you that you’re coming back here to be the number one goalkeeper. I received Covid, but no one followed through on anything they informed me.”
