Manchester United will be looking to go all the way in the Europa League this season after missing out on Champions League football last season.

The major goal for the season will be to finish in the top four of the Premier League, but Europe’s second-tier competition offers a backdoor route to the big time. United last won the Europa League under former manager Jose Mourinho five years ago.

He will compete in the competition this time after leading Roma to victory in the first Europa Conference League. Feyenoord, another finalist, is also in the running.

Arsenal, who finished fifth in the Premier League last season with 11 points more, has also already qualified. Lazio, Braga, Rennes, Real Sociedad, Real Betis, Union Berlin, Freiburg, and Nantes join them.

Another 20 teams will qualify in time for the group stages to begin on September 8. The group stage draw will take conducted on August 26 at 12:00 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Matchday Two is scheduled on September 15, with United also playing on October 6, 13, and 27. On November 3, the group stages will come to an end.

If United finishes second in their group, they will have to compete in an extra play-off knockout phase against the eight teams who finished third in their Champions League group.

The home and away legs will be held on February 16 and 23. If United wins their group, they would advance directly to the final 16, which will be held on March 9 and 16.

The quarter-finals will be held on April 13 and 20, followed by the semi-finals on May 11 and 18. On May 31, the final will be hosted in the 65,000-capacity Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
