Man United appear to have almost completed a deal for Fred's future Fenerbahce teammate Altay Bayindir, and the midfielder has given the goalkeeper some advice ahead of his move.

Former Manchester United midfielder Fred appears to have confirmed Altay Bayindir’s transfer from Fenerbahce, claiming the goalkeeper will join a ‘fantastic team’.

Bayindir is expected to become United’s fourth major signing in a €5 million (£4.29 million) deal. The 25-year-old will take over for Dean Henderson, who is poised to join Crystal Palace on a permanent basis when a £20 million deal is finalized.

While Bayindir’s move to United has been in the works for some time – the club underwent preliminary medical tests early last week – it appears to have been put on wait as Henderson’s departure is finalized. Erik Ten Hag’s team is likely to push through and close the deal this week.

Fred signed Fenerbahce for €15 million this summer and made his debut against Samsunspor last week. The Brazilian had only been teammates with Bayindir for a few weeks, but he appeared to confirm the goalkeeper’s impending departure during his delayed revealing press conference.

“When Altay left, I wished him luck,” Fred recalled. “He’ll be joining a fantastic team,” I suggested other spots for him to live and informed him that it rained a lot! Altay will be extremely happy at Manchester United, in my opinion.”

United boss Erik ten Hag is eager to make further acquisitions once Bayindir’s arrival is confirmed. Following Luke Shaw’s injury, the Dutchman is assessing his short-term options at left-back.

Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon are two targets, while United is also interested in Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso. There could also be a late move for midfield reinforcements, with Sofyan Amrabat a constant link and Ryan Gravenberch on the radar.
