Lisandro Martinez has joined Manchester United from Ajax, becoming the club’s third acquisition of the summer.
Lisandro Martinez is eager to get started at Manchester United after his move from Ajax was finalized on Wednesday. Martinez signed a five-year contract with United for £46.8 million, with an additional year option.
The 24-year-old was photographed arriving at Carrington on Tuesday with Christian Eriksen, and the two might make their debuts for the club this weekend against Atletico Madrid or Rayo Vallecano.
Erik ten Hag’s team agreed to sign the Argentine defender two weeks ago, but the agreement was still subject to a physical before it could be properly disclosed.
Martinez is the club’s third summer acquisition, following Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen. United also intends to sign a midfielder and a backup goalkeeper before the window closes, and they are open to signing a right-back.
“It’s an honor to join this wonderful football club,” the 24-year-old stated after his transfer was completed. I’ve worked so hard to get here, and now that I’m here, I intend to push myself even harder.
“I’ve been fortunate to be a member of successful teams throughout my career, and that’s something I hope to continue at Manchester United.” There will be a lot of effort to get there, but I am confident that we can achieve it under this manager and coaches, as well as with my new teammates.
“I’d want to thank Ajax and their fans for their unwavering support.” I had an incredible time there, but I believe the time has come for me to put my skills to the test in a different setting. Now I’m at the ideal club to do this.”
Martinez will join Juan Sebastian Veron, Gabriel Heinze, Carlos Tevez, Marcos Rojo, Angel di Maria, Sergio Romero, and Alejandro Garnacho as United’s eighth Argentine player.
