Chelsea are not prioritising the signing of Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the winter transfer window, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Ronaldo, 37, has been in the news since the start of the summer transfer window. He has expressed his desire to leave United to play in the UEFA Champions League. However, no transfer has materialised.

For their part, the Blaugrana tried to lure the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer. However, former manager Thomas Tuchel turned down the opportunity because he felt the Portuguese did not fit into his tactical system, according to the Mirror.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Romano said the Blues are now focusing on appointing a new sporting director. He added that Ronaldo is now focused on life at Old Trafford. He said:

“From what I understand, there is no talk of Cristiano Ronaldo at the moment because Chelsea are busy with other priorities, including a new sporting director. That means it is too early to know what Chelsea’s intentions are for January.”

He continued:
“As I said in my recent YouTube video, Todd Boehly wanted Cristiano Ronaldo, but Thomas Tuchel has been very clear on more than one occasion that he has no intention of going after Cristiano Ronaldo. He was offered to Chelsea, but also to Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.”

He added:
“At the moment he is a Manchester United player and he is still 100 per cent professional in training as he looks to get back into the starting line-up.”

Under new United manager Erik ten Hag, the veteran striker has started just one of six Premier League games. He has been relegated to the bench, with Marcus Rashford leading the way.

The former Real Madrid man arrived last summer from Juventus for £13m and was United’s top scorer with 24 goals in 38 appearances. However, he has yet to score in seven games between competitions this season.
