Richard Keys, known for his outspoken commentary, has made numerous bold suggestions regarding Manchester United’s struggles, and proposing a Liverpool icon with just a year of senior managerial experience for one of the most high-pressure roles in world football is among them.

Yorke, the treble-winning striker, expressed his bewilderment at Keys’ recommendation during an interview on BeIN Sports, saying, “Where’s that coming from, do you know what I mean?” and questioning the basis for hiring Alonso at Manchester United.

In defense of Richard Keys, Alonso has been linked with significant managerial roles across Europe, including Real Madrid.

In just over 12 months, the World Cup winner has transformed Bayer Leverkusen from relegation candidates to title contenders.

His side currently tops the Bundesliga table, three points ahead of Bayern Munich, with an impressive record of 11 wins and no losses in 13 matches, matching a record set by Pep Guardiola.

Despite Alonso’s success, his Anfield ties and limited managerial experience at a club where success is not just welcomed but expected make the 42-year-old a less practical candidate for the Manchester United job, especially if Erik ten Hag faces the axe.

It’s akin to picturing Michael Carrick replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, highlighting the complexities involved.
