According to the Manchester Evening News, the 52-year-old has emerged as the front-runner to take over at Old Trafford this summer. Since the firing of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last November, Ralf Rangnick has been in control of United.

Ten Hag saw his Ajax side move a huge step closer to winning the Eredivisie title on Sunday, as they defeated Feyenoord 3-2 thanks to a late Antony winner. The victory put them two points ahead of PSV Eindhoven, their nearest competitors, but he ran into a predicament that United fans are all too acquainted with.

“That doesn’t happen if they do their jobs and take positions,” says the author “ESPN quoted Ten Hag as saying (via Voetbal International). “Now that it has happened, it could have been avoided.

“They won’t counterattack if they do what they have to do. It is a prerequisite for good pressing. There were also times when we had it and Feyenoord couldn’t figure it out.”

Both Ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino, the head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, are candidates to take over at United in the summer.
