Maguire delivered a standout performance for Manchester United in their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sheffield United, prompting Redknapp to condemn the abuse that the defender has endured, both at club and international levels.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Redknapp expressed his dismay, saying, “As a professional, I think he’s been treated disgracefully by football fans. Everywhere he’s gone, his own fans, England fans, he’s been ridiculed and it’s not fair.

The guy has shown today he’s an important player. Of course, he’s made mistakes, everyone makes mistakes, but I look at some of the other players who play for United and make mistakes, and they don’t get a quarter of the stick he gets.”

Redknapp went on to highlight the unfair treatment Maguire has received in comparison to his peers, explaining that when Maguire makes a mistake, it often becomes the subject of memes and widespread discussion, while others escape similar scrutiny.

He firmly believes that the criticism has been grossly disproportionate and unjust.

While Redknapp acknowledges Maguire’s recent good form, he remains skeptical about whether Maguire is the long-term solution for Manchester United. He hinted that the defender might need to seek opportunities elsewhere in the future.

Nevertheless, Redknapp emphasized that regardless of one’s perspective on Maguire’s future at United, the criticism he has faced is unwarranted and, at times, disgraceful.

Maguire faced intense criticism after a series of subpar performances led to his removal from the starting lineup under Erik ten Hag last season. He was also stripped of his club captaincy at the beginning of the current campaign.

His international standing took a hit when he scored an own goal against Scotland in September, further fueling the negative attention directed at the 30-year-old.

In contrast, Redknapp’s fellow pundit, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, praised Maguire for his resilience and bravery on the field. Hasselbaink, who has worked with Maguire since joining Gareth Southgate’s coaching staff, commended the defender’s unwavering commitment and willingness to take responsibility for his actions.

He lauded Maguire as one of the bravest players he knows and expressed that people’s treatment of him is often unjust.

Harry Maguire himself defended his performances for Manchester United earlier this month, highlighting his impressively high win percentage in a Red Devils shirt despite limited starts last season.

He also revealed that he sought advice from former England captain David Beckham, who provided guidance on dealing with the abuse he’s faced while representing his country.

Maguire played a pivotal role in Manchester United’s victory at Bramall Lane, with goals from Scott McTominay and a second-half winner from Diogo Dalot sealing the win.
