According to rumors, Manchester United have held ‘exploratory talks’ with Bayern Munich about signing Benjamin Pavard this summer. Following the Red Devils’ 2-0 Premier League defeat to Newcastle on Sunday, details have emerged. That loss has emphasized the importance of Erik ten Hag strengthening the roster before the end of the season.

Manchester United were terrible against Newcastle, losing 2-0 thanks to strikes from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson.

The good news for Ten Hag is that the club is ready to act off the pitch.

According to The Athletic, United have held ‘exploratory talks’ with Bayern Munich about signing Pavard at the end of the season.

While Aaron Wan-Bissaka has performed well in the second half of the season, the 24-year-old is expected to leave if a good offer comes in.

Despite toiling during Newcastle’s defeat, United are in negotiations with Diogo Dalot about a new contract.

But Pavard would be a welcome addition, and his World Cup experience would give Ten Hag’s team a much-needed boost.

A new right-back isn’t the only acquisition United is hoping to make as the summer transfer window approaches.

They are also looking for a center-forward, with Harry Kane being their main target due to doubts about his long-term future at Tottenham.

The England international’s contract with the club expires in 2024, so this summer could be Spurs’ last chance to transfer him for a large money.

United have admired Kane since the days when Louis van Gaal was in charge.

And Ten Hag is believed to be sold on the notion of bringing in the 30-year-old, who would offer guaranteed goals, Premier League experience, and leadership in spades.

If United miss out, it’s possible that they’ll turn to Victor Osimhen, Goncalo Ramos, or Evan Ferguson instead.

Another midfielder is also being pursued.

Despite the fact that the Dutch international has stated his happiness at Barcelona, United remains interested in Frenkie de Jong.

And they’re keeping an eye on Jude Bellingham, who is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Nevertheless, following United’s defeat to Newcastle, Ten Hag lashed out at his players, accusing them of not putting in enough effort.

“I was surprised we couldn’t match the opponent’s effort, emotion, and ambition,” the 53-year-old added.

“When you go to Saint James’ Park, you know what’s going to happen, especially if we win the [Carabao] Cup.”

“To win major games, you have to be mature, and I didn’t see that on the field today.”

“I don’t believe we undervalued Newcastle.” They play above their levels because they are so enthusiastic, but that is to be expected.

“They were determined to win this game, but you had to match that determination and be aware of the circumstances from the beginning.”

“We didn’t access the opponent’s final third, the box, too many times, but they could easily enter our box.” We must do much better.”

“I think our attacking game was not good enough,” he added. I don’t want to be preoccupied with just one individual. It all came down to team performance.

“We didn’t dissect them. We had a trap on the right side with Antony and Diogo [Dalot] in the first half, but almost nothing on the left.

“The game has come to an end.” We didn’t produce many chances today, and when we did, we weren’t determined enough to score.

“That is correct. The deflected shot provided the finest opportunity for [Anthony] Martial to equalize. But, we did not produce enough.”
