Last month, the 26-year-old worked extremely hard to leave Old Trafford. However, if Saturday’s performance against Osasuna is any indication, he will need to catch up to get back to his best.

On Saturday, Sevilla dropped crucial points in its bid to keep pace with table-topping Real Madrid.

The disappointing 0-0 stalemate with Osasuna has left them three points behind, despite having played one more game.

And Sevilla’s lack of offensive punch was partly down to Martial’s lackluster performance, which saw him dragged off with 15 minutes remaining.

And, speaking after the game, Lopetegui slammed the high-profile January signing.

“He owes us more,” he conceded. “It was his first game, and it wasn’t easy for him to adjust.”

“He comes with some baggage because he hasn’t played much.” He’ll have to catch up bit by bit.”

Martial’s drop in form after his 23-goal season in 2019-20 has been astonishing.

Indeed, he only scored once in eight Premier League games this season before being released.

Sevilla’s next match is on Friday night, when they host 14th-placed Elche.
