In what feels like a defeat, Galatasaray’s 3-3 draw against Manchester United leaves them plummeting to the bottom of the rankings, forfeiting control over their destiny in the Champions League Round of 16.

The anticipated victory for Manchester United in the Galatasaray rematch turned sour, primarily due to the costly errors of goalkeeper Andre Onana, contributing to all three goals and denying the Red Devils the deserved three points.

Adding to the disappointment, another newcomer, Sofyan Amrabat, failed to live up to expectations in the central midfielder role.

As visitors in Turkey, coach Erik ten Hag opted to tweak the midfield setup in the starting lineup.

Unfortunately, the decision to favor summer signing Sofyan Amrabat over the in-form young talent Kobbie Mainoo, who shone in the recent victory over Everton, proved to be less than optimal.

The 27-year-old was expected to fill the shoes of Casemiro but fell short, delivering one of his least impactful performances for Fiorentina and the Moroccan national team.

In his 58 minutes on the field, Amrabat managed only 27 touches, showcasing his near-invisibility in the game.

His on-ball performance starkly contrasted with the contributions Kobbie Mainoo demonstrated over the weekend.

Disappointingly, Amrabat registered no crosses, important passes, shots, interceptions, or tackles during his time on the pitch.

In contrast, Mainoo, despite coming off the bench, made two clearances and executed one accurate tackle.

Whether the decision to bring in Amrabat was based on the need for added experience or to give Mainoo some rest, Ten Hag explained to TNT Sports: ‘Both.’

‘Sofyan is accustomed to playing in significant matches and such environments.

Hailing from Morocco, situated at the crossroads of North Africa and Southern Europe, including Italy, he brings a wealth of experience in handling such games.’

‘While I have confidence in Kobbie, as seen in the hostile environment on Sunday, he can’t play every game.

Coming back from injury, and being a young player, he needs to acclimate to the demands of playing high-level matches with intense competition.’

Given this lackluster performance, the future for the Moroccan star at Fiorentina may be in question when the season concludes.
