Fabrizio Romano has quashed rumors suggesting that Manchester United is considering replacing goalkeeper Andre Onana with Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak in the upcoming January transfer window.

In July, the 27-year-old Onana joined Manchester United from Inter Milan for a fee of £47 million, filling the void left by David de Gea’s departure from the club after his contract expired.

While Onana has faced challenges with a few notable mistakes in the early part of the season, sparking speculation that manager Erik ten Hag might seek a replacement, the rumored link to Atletico Madrid’s Oblak appears to be unfounded.

Jan Oblak is widely regarded as one of Europe’s premier goalkeepers, boasting 399 appearances for the Spanish giants, 194 clean sheets, and four major titles in his career.

However, Fabrizio Romano has unequivocally denied these reports, affirming Manchester United’s trust in Andre Onana and asserting that pursuing a deal for Oblak at this stage would be nonsensical.

“I want to clarify some misinformation and false reports circulating regarding Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation,” Romano stated in an interview with Caught Offside.

“While Andre Onana’s start at Old Trafford may not have been the smoothest, it’s essential to remember that players adapting to a new club and country often require time to settle.

“Rumors have also circulated linking Manchester United with Jan Oblak, suggesting that the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper could be a potential target for the Red Devils. However, I can confirm that these reports are entirely baseless.

“There is no connection between Manchester United and Jan Oblak. The club has made a substantial investment in Onana and has placed its trust in him.

Andre Onana is Manchester United’s present and future goalkeeper, and there have been no discussions, either from the player’s side or the club’s side, concerning Jan Oblak.

“At this stage, it would be illogical for Manchester United to pursue such a deal.”
