United commenced their European campaign at the Allianz Arena, ultimately succumbing to a 4-3 defeat, despite Casemiro’s two late goals that nearly secured a point.

Among the players who found it tough on the night was Christian Eriksen. Despite having an excellent opportunity to give United a 1-0 lead, he failed to convert from a rebound.

As the match unfolded, Eriksen struggled to assert control in midfield, consistently outmaneuvered by the likes of Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich. He engaged in five ground duels but failed to emerge victorious in any of them.

Additionally, the 31-year-old lost possession ten times and was dribbled past on two occasions, leading to his substitution in the 69th minute, with Scott McTominay taking his place.

While Eriksen made an impressive start to his United career last season, an unfortunate ankle injury in January interrupted his progress. Since returning, his performances have failed to reach their previous heights.

Eriksen has often been outpaced by opponents, and this match against Bayern underscored his struggles in coping with the intensity and work rate of the opposing midfielders.

In our opinion, it may be wise to remove him from the starting lineup for the upcoming Burnley fixture. If Mason Mount is fit to play, he could seamlessly slot into the starting XI for the Turf Moor clash.

Alternatively, if Mount isn’t available for the start, it might be an opportune moment to provide Hannibal Mejbri with a chance, especially after his dynamic cameo and sublime long-range goal against Brighton & Hove Albion.
