The former Manchester United goalkeeper, aged 32, spent more than a decade at Old Trafford before departing when his contract expired in the summer.

However, the performance of his successor, Andre Onana, who joined the Red Devils in a £47.2 million deal, has raised concerns due to a series of high-profile errors.

These concerns have led some United fans to yearn for De Gea’s return, as the veteran goalkeeper is currently without a club.

This week, calls for his comeback intensified when De Gea returned to Manchester to address matters concerning his former house.

De Gea had already teased fans with an Instagram story from Leigh Sports Village, where the United women’s team played against Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League qualifier.

Subsequently, he shared a picture of himself alongside Reguilon, the Tottenham left-back who joined United on loan during the summer, on his Instagram story.

De Gea has turned down offers to return to professional football and is in no rush to make a decision regarding his next move.

While he was offered an attractive contract to move to Saudi Arabia during the summer, he declined the interest. Additionally, top European clubs have been linked with him.

Erik ten Hag’s decision to part ways with De Gea was due to his preference for a goalkeeper capable of playing out from the back with his feet.

Onana, whom he had worked with at Ajax, possesses these skills. However, Onana’s initial months at Manchester United have been marked by numerous embarrassing mistakes.

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel expressed concern this week that Onana’s teammates may have lost trust in their new goalkeeper due to his errors.

Schmeichel told Premier League Productions: “I think a lot of that [Onana’s mistakes] is pressure. I spoke to him after Bayern. I spoke to him after Galatasaray as well, and he was very down about the mistakes he made.

“I’m trying to speak to him about what it’s like being at Manchester United and why, no matter the mistakes you’ve made, you have to put them in a box and set them aside.

If you make a mistake in the game, it might be a mistake we can see, or it might be a mistake we don’t see.

“But you wait to think about it and analyze it after the game or at night or whenever. You have to be ready for the next moment.

If you’re not, you’ll make the next mistake. And now he’s upset the whole team. They will now trust him even less, and that’s not good.”
