Marcus Rashford’s profligacy in front of goal added to Manchester United’s woes as they succumbed to a defeat against Crystal Palace.

The frustrations extended beyond the Manchester United faithful, as Rashford’s performance left even the club’s staff exasperated. United had faced a challenging start to the season, with three losses in their opening six games leading up to the showdown with Palace.

In an effort to maintain freshness for Saturday’s encounter with Palace, Erik ten Hag had opted to keep Rashford on the bench during the midweek Carabao Cup clash, where United had displayed promise against Roy Hodgson’s side, despite significant changes in Palace’s lineup.

However, Rashford’s inability to find the net drew the ire of fans, who voiced their discontent on social media. Interestingly, it wasn’t just the supporters who were unimpressed with Rashford’s performance.

Reports from the Manchester Evening News suggest that United’s own staff were “despairing at Rashford’s use of the ball.” In a bid to ignite Rashford’s attacking prowess, Ten Hag was seen engaging with the forward before half-time to offer guidance and encouragement.

Despite these efforts, Rashford’s struggles persisted, prompting a tactical shift that saw him relocated to the right wing after the introduction of Alejandro Garnacho during the second half, as United chased an equalizer.

Ultimately, Ten Hag’s patience wore thin, and on the 76th minute, Rashford made way, along with Mason Mount, for the entrance of Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen. Unfortunately for United, these changes failed to alter the course of the match, resulting in yet another disheartening defeat.
