Erik ten Hag, manager of Manchester United, has spoken out following his team’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday. Bruno Fernandes scored in the 39th minute to give the Red Devils all three points. And the result means they’re on the verge of returning to the Champions League despite missing out this season.

Manchester United are on the verge of returning to the Champions League after Fernandes scored the game’s lone goal, boosting their prospects of finishing in the top four.

The midfielder took his goal superbly, with the Portugal international’s deflected effort going beyond Emiliano Martinez’s reach.

United put on a strong performance, ending Villa’s great run under Unai Emery.

After the game, Ten Hag singled out Fernandes and Victor Lindelof for appreciation as his team claimed all three points.

“A good three points, but I think an impressive performance from Manchester United,” added the 53-year-old, whose team has won 39 of its last 45 home games.

“We were fantastic on the ball, had great possession, and pressed well.”

“You want to go 2-0 up in the second half, but we didn’t, so it’s always going to be a tough finish.”

“[Victor Lindelof] was outstanding. He was completely in command of the area around [Ollie] Watkins.

“Bruno [Fernandes] had another outstanding game.” The goal was to play him from the right side to make runs behind, which he did admirably.

“I think our plan worked out very well.”

“We look from game to game, and next up is Brighton, so we have to work hard again,” he continued.

“We need to rekindle our passion and stop worrying about the table.”

“We are completely in control [of the race for the top four], it’s all about us and everything is in our hands.”

Fernandes spoke up as well.

“We always do everything to win the game, not every time it is possible, but the team always does everything to win the game,” added the playmaker.
