Ten Hag explains why Manchester United sign new South African star

On Sunday, the South African was at Old Trafford as the Reds drew 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano in our final pre-season friendly.
His employment as a first-team coach was announced over the weekend, and the former striker has the credentials and knowledge to help the team’s offense.
Ten Hag was looking to add to his backroom staff ahead of next weekend’s Premier League start against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford, and believed his fellow former Ajax man filled the bill.
“There remained one spot on our coaching staff that I still wanted to fill,” he told MUTV. “Someone with a distinct voice, and Benni is that person.”
“He has management experience.” He was a professional coach as well as a former striker, albeit a very successful striker.”
McCarthy’s precise position at Carrington was also touched on by the manager, with the Reds preparing for life at home and abroad in 2021/22.
“He’ll concentrate on positioning and attacking,” Ten Hag added.
“I’m not just talking about the strikers, but also the full-backs and midfielders.” Our style of play must be dynamic.”
