Deal Done, signed & Completed: Man Utd captain joins Premier League rivals in permanent deal

Ashley Young, a former Manchester United player, is still going strong at the age of 38, having signed a new contract with a Premier League outfit.

The player confirmed his signing with Everton on Twitter, calling it “the worst [kept] secret.”

He went on to say that he was “excited” and “can’t wait to get started.”

Young spent the previous season at Aston Villa, where he played a major role in Unai Emery’s stunning turnaround that took Villa from the bottom of the league to a European qualification slot.

He appeared in 29 Premier League games as Emery valued his experience and leadership during one of Villa’s most successful seasons in the league.

Following a good temporary partnership, both parties decided to split ways.

Now, Sean Dyche will be aiming for a similar result at Everton, who narrowly avoided relegation last season.

He offers Premier League experience, having played 422 league games.

He left United for Inter in the January transfer window of 2020 and has experienced a career comeback since then.

Young had become the face of everything wrong with the club by the end of his time at Old Trafford, and he was constantly criticized for his performances.

Reinvented as a regular right-back, he first played an important role in Inter Milan’s path to the Scudetto, then led Aston Villa’s dressing room through a season of ups and downs.

At Everton, he would provide protection for the right-back position, which is currently contested by veteran Seamus Coleman and rising upstart Nathan Patterson.

Young is unlikely to make many appearances, particularly against young attacking wingers with pace, but his presence in the dressing room will be appreciated by Dyche, who will be in his first full season at Goodison Park this season.
