Romelu Lukaku sends five-word message to Chelsea team-mates following £97.5m transfer
Having returned to Chelsea after a seven-year absence, the Belgian attacker is clearly thrilled to be back at his former club.
As a result of Chelsea breaking their transfer record to sign the striker, Romelu Lukaku has issued a message to his new team-mates.”
Lukaku, who left Chelsea for Everton in 2014 following a dissatisfying stint at Stamford Bridge, has cost the west London club £97.5million – a price that surpasses the club’s previous record transfer fee of £20 million spent on Kai Havertz last summer by more than £20 million.
The Belgian international led Inter Milan to Serie A championship triumph last season and returns to Chelsea as a far more well-rounded player than he was when he left the club all those years ago, according to the club.
Many believe that Romelu Lukaku will be the missing piece in Thomas Tuchel’s puzzle in London after the Blues struggled in the final third at times during the previous season.
It is unclear if the 28-year-old attacker will be available to play against Crystal Palace in the Premier League opener on Saturday, but Lukaku will join his new Chelsea teammates very soon as he begins a new chapter in his professional career.
With his new teammates and passionate fans watching on Twitter, Lukaku has sent out a message to the whole football world.
- Lionel Messi makes himself available for trade as Liverpool completes a £78 million double transfer.
His five-word statement, which read: “Happy to be back home (blue love heart emoji),” was a straightforward one from the £97.5 million strikers.
Additionally, Lukaku shared a video from his first season with Chelsea, which was followed by a motivating message that read: “Dream Believe Achieve.” I’m delighted to be back in my hometown! Please go to work, @ChelseaFC (blue love-heart emoticon)”.
When Lukaku says “home,” he truly believes what he is saying. After his return to Stamford Bridge was confirmed, the Belgian talked to the club’s official website about his admiration for the Blues and his desire to play for them again.
“I’m grateful and delighted to be back at this fantastic club,” he expressed his gratitude.
This has been a long trip for me: I arrived here as a young child with much to learn, and now I’m returning with a wealth of knowledge and maturity.
“As you are aware, the bond I have with this club is extremely important to me. I’ve been a Chelsea fan since I was a child, and it’s an incredible feeling to come back and want to help them win even more titles.
- Following Lionel Messi’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, Cristiano Ronaldo responded to the message.
“At 28 years old and fresh off a Serie A championship, the direction in which the club is heading perfectly suits my objectives.”
“I believe this is an excellent chance, and I am confident that we will achieve great success together.”
