Real Madrid president Florentino Perez confirmed a special send-off for departing Casemiro ahead of his move to Manchester United, while Luka Modric sent a special message to the Brazilian.

Casemiro’s transfer to Manchester United was finalized on Friday evening, with United paying an initial cost of £60 million plus a further £10 million in future add-ons. After their failed offer for Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot, United turned their attention to the Madrid talent, while Frenkie de Jong remains a Barcelona player.

The Brazilian international is United’s fourth signing of the summer under new manager Erik ten Hag, and the club is hoping that his arrival will spark a late influx of players. Defenders Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia joined from Ajax and Feyenoord, respectively, and Christian Eriksen joined as a free agent after his contract with Brentford expired.

Casemiro is having a medical at United this weekend before being officially registered as a player at Old Trafford, but Real Madrid president Perez said on Saturday night that the club would give him a special send-off to commemorate his achievements.

During his eight seasons at the club, the holding midfielder won 18 trophies, including five Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles. On Saturday night, the Spanish club won 4-1 at Celta Vigo without Casemiro, with Aurelien Tchouameni replacing him in the lineup.

Modric, who scored in Saturday’s win in Vigo, said of his long-term teammate’s departure: “It’s really bad because we’ve made history with him. We’ll miss him as a footballer and as a person, and I’m sorry to see him go, but that’s football.”

United are hoping to recruit at least two more players in the final weeks of the summer transfer window. A £67 million bid for Ajax attacker Antony has been turned down by the Dutch giants. Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven is an attacking option.

The club is also hoping to acquire a new goalkeeper to compete with the out-of-form David De Gea, as well as a new right-back, but that is dependent on the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who may return to Crystal Palace this summer.
