Bruno Fernandes made Champions League history by breaking the mark formerly held by Manchester United legend David Beckham.
United were stunned with only seven minutes on the clock at the intimidating Wanda Metropolitano yesterday night, with a place in the quarter-finals on the line.
For the most part, United struggled to produce any clear-cut openings in their pursuit for an equaliser, with Joao Felix nodding home the opener for Atletico Madrid.
That was until the final stages, when Fernandes and Anthony Elanga teamed up.
Despite not having one of his better performances in a United shirt, it was the Portuguese sensation who set up Elanga with a pinpoint pass.
It was an 80th-minute goal, so the tie is evenly balanced going into the second leg.
Fernandes was instrumental in the equaliser, and in doing so, the United playmaker broke a record set by David Beckham during his stint at the club.
In 1998, the former England captain had five consecutive assists in Champions League games.

That has since been the competition’s highest total for any player representing a Premier League side, but Fernandes now holds the record after providing a supply line in his sixth consecutive encounter in Europe.
