Cristiano Ronaldo should not be offered a new contract, according to more than half of Manchester United fans who participated in a poll.
Last summer, the Portugal superstar signed a two-year contract at Old Trafford. Ronaldo has scored 18 goals for United this season, making him the club’s leading scorer.
However, other fans are dissatisfied with his alleged negative impact on the rest of the team, with morale appearing to be at an all-time low. Some believe his playing style, which includes a reluctance to press, is a hindrance to the team’s overall effectiveness.
United has had a poor season and appears to be on the verge of missing out on a top-four finish. Ronaldo, as well as other players including captain Harry Maguire, have been chastised for this.
According to a poll conducted by the Manchester Evening News, 52.2 percent of voters do not want United to offer Ronaldo a new contract. A little more than 38% want to see him sign a new deal, while 9.5 percent are undecided.
This is a damning set of numbers for Ronaldo, who was a huge fan favorite at Old Trafford during his first spell there. He will surely go down as one of the club’s all-time greats, but according to the survey, his return to the club in 2021/22 was far from perfect.
If United fails to qualify for the Champions League next season, there has been talk that the superstar may opt out of his current contract early. These rumors have now cooled down, with one article even saying that he is committed to seeing his contract through.
