According to ESPN, Barcelona and Gavi’s agent, Ivan de la Pena, failed not reach an agreement on a new contract for the player at their meeting on Thursday.
The conference, however, ended on a positive one, as all parties are now closer than ever to striking an agreement.
Only minor elements have to be worked out between the player and the club before a final agreement can be achieved.
Barcelona aims to sign a 6-year contract with Gavi and increase his release clause from €50 million to €1 billion, according to Marca. His pay will also rise significantly.
Following the signing of his new deal, Gavi will be promoted to the senior team.
