The England international’s contract is slated to end next year, but he appears to be on the verge of signing a new one.

Marcus Rashford’s contract at Manchester United has been extended.

According to the dependable Fabrizio Romano, United is close to reaching an agreement with Rashford on a contract extension.

Rashford was one of the Dutchman’s greatest players last season, so this will be a huge boost for manager Erik ten Hag.

According to Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old scored 30 goals in 56 appearances. According to the same report, he is currently worth roughly £68 million.

With Wout Weghorst returning to Burnley, the Red Devils will almost certainly need to acquire a new forward this summer.

What did Dean Jones have to say about Marcus Rashford and Manchester United?
Jones believes United should make a big deal out of Rashford’s contract extension once it becomes official.

“One of the first good news stories that United should be unveiling is that Rashford is staying,” the transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT. Make a huge thing out of it, plaster him with posters all over town, and make sure everyone knows what a big deal this is.”

Why is Marcus Rashford’s continued presence at Manchester United such a significant deal?

As previously stated, he was in tremendous form last season after scoring 30 goals. It is not the kind of firepower that any manager wants to lose, especially while hunting for a new forward.

According to The Athletic, United are interested in a number of No.9s, including Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

There is no assurance that Ten Hag will get his striker, which is why Rashford’s retention is critical.

If the previous season is any indication, getting Rashford to sign a new contract could be the best piece of business United does all summer.

If they want to improve and compete with Manchester City for the title next season, they will almost certainly need to bring in a prolific No.9. Keeping up with the European champions and Erling Haaland without doing so appears to be an impossible feat.

For the time being, however, United can be delighted with the progress made in contract negotiations with Rashford.
