Not No.7 or 14 – Marcel Sabitzer Shirt number revealed as Bundesliga star completes loan move to Man United

Marcel Sabitzer is on the verge of joining Manchester United on loan till the end of the season.

The Austrian midfielder has joined to help Ten Hag deal with the midfield challenges caused by Eriksen’s injury.

Sabitzer wore the number 18 for Bayern Munich, while Manchester United’s top midfielder Casemiro currently wears those numerals.

So we’re taking a look at some of the numbers Sabitzer could choose when he joins United.

Sabitzer’s possible shirt numbers

• Sabitzer is most likely to choose the number 7 because it is the number he wore at RB Leipzig for the longest period and where he played his greatest football. Before departing for Al Nassr in December, Cristiano Ronaldo famously donned the number.
• Sabitzer has already worn the number 24 in his career. Before joining RB Salzburg, he wore the number on his back at Rapid Vienne.
• Darren Fletcher made the number his own by wearing it for nearly 12 years, but other players such as Beckham and Scholes have also used it.
• The number 16 was also on Sabizter’s back throughout his early career at FC Admira Wacker Modling.

The number is much more famous at Manchester United, where it was worn by one of the club’s greatest-ever captains (and midfielders), Roy Keane.

Amad Diallo most recently wore the number, however, the player is on loan until the summer.

Although Sabitzer has not worn the number 15 at any of his previous teams, he may be tempted to do so given that players such as Vidic, Scholes, Beckham, and Lee Sharpe have all done so in the past.
