Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani has been injured.
Manchester United has had a rough season so far and now faces a fight to qualify for the Champions League next season, but Fabrizio Romano has delivered some terrible news from the World Cup qualifiers.
The popular transfer expert reported that Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani was injured while on international duty for Uruguay.
“Bad news for Manchester United as Edinson Cavani departs the pitch with an injury during Uruguay’s game,” Romano tweeted.
Concerned about United
Despite missing out on game time for Manchester United this season as a result of Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival, Ralf Rangnick will undoubtedly be concerned that the attacker will not be able to provide depth as an option for the team in the front line ahead of the club’s desperate pursuit of a top-four spot this season.
The 35-year-old has fallen out of favor at Old Trafford, but he has also been plagued by multiple injury concerns this season, resulting in limited game time, but there is no doubt that he has been a reliable offensive danger in the team when he has been available for selection.
Cavani has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists for his Manchester United teammates in 56 games over the last two seasons, averaging a goal per 113 minutes. The majority of his achievements at the club helped them finish second in the Premier League under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer last season, scoring ten Premier League goals.
With that stated, if Rangnick’s team needed a late goal, having Cavani on the bench to come on and deliver would have been useful to the Man United manager over the remaining Premier League matchups.
They cannot afford to squander points in their chase of a top-four finish, especially with Arsenal and Tottenham hot on their tails.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the degree of Cavani’s injury is now unknown, but he is unlikely to play against Leicester this weekend at Old Trafford.
